April 2024

In a recent meeting, President El-Sisi of Egypt emphasized the government's commitment to bolstering the private sector's involvement in the health sector and attracting more investment into this critical domain. Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly and Minister of Health and Population Khaled Abdel-Ghaffar joined the president in discussing the progress and future prospects of various national health projects.

According to a statement released by the presidential office, the meeting delved into the advancements of key health initiatives, including the inauguration of the French Gustave Roussy Institute's branch in Egypt, established in collaboration with El-Salam Hospital. Additionally, plans for the development of a medical city at the Nasser Institute (Nile Medical City) were reviewed, underlining the government's strategic focus on enhancing healthcare infrastructure across the nation.

Among the projects under scrutiny were the central laboratories project in Badr City and the medical city for educational institutes project in the New Administrative Capital. President El-Sisi underscored the imperative for the government to extend full support to these initiatives, aligning with the broader objective of expanding health services to citizens and accelerating comprehensive health insurance coverage.

Furthermore, discussions encompassed the localization of the pharmaceutical industry and the facilitation of Egyptian medicine exports to new markets. El-Sisi emphasized the significance of these endeavors in strengthening Egypt's healthcare sector and contributing to the country's economic growth.

In a move aimed at addressing critical healthcare needs, the president directed the government to intensify efforts to reduce waiting times for critical cases, while also extending health assistance to Palestinians in the Gaza Strip to alleviate the ongoing humanitarian and health crisis.

Looking ahead, Egypt has announced plans to increase budget allocations for health and education by 30 percent in the fiscal year 2024/2025, signaling a continued commitment to enhancing essential services and infrastructure for its citizens.
