‘Together We Are Good’ To Provide Healthcare Support For Chronic Illnesses To Abu Dhabi Residents In Need

July 2020

The Authority of Social Contribution – Ma’an’s ‘Together We Are Good’ programme, in coordination with the Department of Health in Abu Dhabi, has collaborated with the National Health Insurance Company – Daman to launch the Medical Support programme, providing medical support to residents of Abu Dhabi with chronic illness who are impacted by the current health and economic situation and require access to medical treatment.

Under the terms of the agreement, Ma’an’s ‘Together We Are Good’ programme will be providing funding for medical consultation and essential medication supplies for four months for those with chronic illnesses. Treatments will be covered for all hospital and private clinic visits for patients who suffer from heart disease or high blood pressure, diabetes, asthma, or other lung diseases.

Abu Dhabi residents who are eligible must have a valid basic insurance card with Daman, but have already exceeded their outpatient pharmaceutical coverage limit. The support will include four month’s supply of medications for chronic conditions available from healthcare facilities within Daman’s network, or two medication refills per person – whichever level of support is achieved earliest.

Daman is providing its extensive range of services to administer the programme through its network of medical facilities. As part of its role, Daman will be contacting those eligible for the programme and facilitate their acess to healthcare and treatment similar to how it manages its insured members.

Her Excellency Salama Al Ameemi, Director General of Ma’an, said: “The health and safety of Abu Dhabi community members is of the utmost importance in these exceptional circumstances, especially those most affected. I feel grateful to everyone who has contributed –both individuals and organisations – and I appreciate every contribution of any size. "

She added: "The valuable contribution of providing health care, medicines and medical consultations for those suffering from chronic diseases, embodies the solidarity of the residents of the Emirate of Abu Dhabi, and this contribution will play a positive role in the lives of many people. Especially when one considers that people with chronic conditions are more vulnerable to Covid-19 and are exposed to greater risk than other members of society.”

Commenting on the initiative, Hamad Al Mehyas, Deputy CEO of the National Health Insurance Company – Daman, said: “The socio-economic challenges raised by the impact of COVID-19 have been wide-ranging. For those with chronic health conditions this is a particularly difficult time and accessing medication and consultation remains of vital importance for these individuals.

“At Daman, we have implemented a range of initiatives to meet the challenges and support our communities during this unprecedented time. We are delighted to partner with Ma’an on this important programme that will help the health of the emirate and the nation, and ensure that those living with chronic illnesses can continue to receive the care they need.”
