Culligan Delivers New Safety Solution for Hospitals

August 2020

Culligan Middle East, an established supplier of water solutions to UAE hospitals, is delivering another safety solution for the healthcare industry in response to the Covid-19 pandemic. A surface and skin contact sanitizer developed at the company’s certified Dubai laboratory at the start of the lockdown was originally made for use by its own staff. But the sanitizer, adapted from a water treatment product through a novel process, was soon in demand from the healthcare and other industries. While a stream of other similar products have been banned because of safety regulations, Culligan Safe Guard 45 H 25 is the only sanitizer to have been certified by the Emirates Authority For Standardization & Metrology Having also earned safety approval from a UK-based independent research specialist, it has a base of hypochlorous acid, a substance our white blood cells produce naturally in the immune system to combat infection, meaning it is highly effective and safe for the body. “As a responsible company, our priority is always to ensure that our products are safe and effective,” said Culligan Middle East technical director, Rodger Macfarlane. “At the start of the lockdown we looked for a good hand sanitizer for our staff, but couldn’t find anything suitable in the market. So I put on a lab coat and worked with the team to adapt one of our water treatment products.” Culligan’s main business is to make water safe across industry. Water is used throughout a hospital - for steam generation, heating and cooling, sterilization of surgical instruments, dialysis treatment - so the quality of water has a huge impact on the health, safety and comfort of patients and staff. Culligan’s strength is in providing total water solutions, including equipment, chemicals and service, as opposed to the option of hospital water management by multiple suppliers making supervision complex and time consuming.
