Moorfields Eye Hospital Dubai (MEHD) welcomes Dr. Salman Waqar, an experienced ophthalmologist specialising in the treatment of adult glaucoma and cataracts, to its team of revered medical professionals.

Hailing from the United Kingdom, with over 15 years of experience, Dr. Waqar’s areas of expertise include medical laser and surgical treatments for glaucoma and cataract surgery.

With experience in a range of prestigious eye units, including the West of England Eye Unit, Royal Eye Infirmary, Nuffield Health, Medical Eye Clinic, and Newmedica, Dr Waqar is equipped with the ability to diagnosis a wide variety of general and acute ophthalmic conditions.

Dr. Waqar holds Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) from Rawalpindi Medical University, College of Health Sciences in Pakistan, which is complimented by the numerous accolades he has received over the years.

He is an honorary fellow of Plymouth University, Royal College of Ophthalmologists, and holds memberships with the United Kingdom’s Eire Glaucoma Society, and the European Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons. In addition to his clinical work, he has also performed with distinction as the Director of Clinical Governance and for the Glaucoma Service.

With an aim to develop the field further, Dr. Waqar has been published in over 20 peer-reviewed journals, such as the British Journal of Ophthalmology and the Journal of Cataract and Refractive Surgery.

His research interests include optimising patient outcomes with minimally invasive surgery, using virtual reality simulation to investigate surgeon performance, and the development of innovative surgical instruments to improve patient safety.

In 2019, his work was recognised with a nomination for a regional Trainer of the Year Award by the Peninsula School of Ophthalmology.

His other achievements include invitations to teach at the Royal College of Ophthalmologists for a minimally invasive glaucoma surgery and microsurgical skills course. In addition, he holds a license to practice with the General Medical Council (UK) and is on the Specialist Register.
