Front Line Medical Technologies, a leader in emergency and trauma care innovations, has announced the UK launch of its CE-marked COBRA-OS®, the world’s smallest aortic occlusion device. This milestone follows its approval under MDR as a Class III medical device, enabling the company to bring its life-saving technology to one of the most advanced markets for pre-hospital REBOA (Resuscitative Endovascular Balloon Occlusion of the Aorta) implementation.
Designed to control critical bleeding and buy valuable time in emergency situations, the COBRA-OS® addresses key challenges in trauma care. Its ultra-low-profile 4 French size minimizes procedural risks, while its partial REBOA capability allows tailored blood flow control in complex scenarios. The all-in-one system, including a 10cc syringe and mini-access kit, simplifies deployment, making it highly effective in time-sensitive environments.
"The United Kingdom represents a crucial milestone in our mission to advance aortic occlusion technology and improve trauma care outcomes," said Dr. Asha Parekh, CEO at Front Line Medical Technologies. "We designed this device to address critical time constraints in emergency settings, where rapid deployment and controlled occlusion can make a vital difference."
The UK has played a pioneering role in REBOA, dating back to 2018 when London’s Air Ambulance conducted the world’s first pre-hospital REBOA procedure. Recent developments, including a landmark multicenter clinical trial in 2023, have renewed focus on optimizing aortic occlusion techniques in trauma care. The COBRA-OS®’s compact design and ease of use are well-positioned to support emergency teams operating in these high-pressure scenarios.
To ensure seamless delivery and support, Front Line Medical Technologies has partnered with Mermaid Medical, a leading distributor of vascular and interventional products. Together, they will bring the COBRA-OS® to healthcare providers across the UK and the Nordic region.
"We are thrilled to strengthen our presence in the endovascular field and partner with Front Line Medical Technologies to improve patient outcomes," said Sebastian Jørgensen, Marketing Director at Mermaid Medical Group.
This collaboration reinforces both companies’ shared commitment to advancing trauma care and ensuring better outcomes for patients worldwide.
