Saudi Arabia Expands Home Healthcare Services to Enhance Quality of Life

February 2025

The Ministry of Health, in collaboration with health clusters, continues to expand home healthcare services across Saudi Arabia, aiming to enhance quality of life, improve patient experience, and provide comprehensive treatment solutions.

The ministry stated that basic home care services include wound care, treatment of bed sores, follow-ups for chronic diseases, home visits, post-operative care, oral and dental health, and intravenous therapy. Recently, new services such as mother and childcare, dialysis, and palliative care have been introduced to further address patient needs.

Over the past year, more than 58,000 active cases have benefited from these home care services, with a total of 71,000 beneficiaries since the program's launch. These services are delivered by 244 home healthcare departments staffed by over 2,700 specialized professionals.

This initiative aligns with the goals of Saudi Vision 2030 and the Health Sector Transformation Program, which aim to improve access to high-quality healthcare services and address the needs of the community. Eligible individuals can request home healthcare services through specialized hospital departments or primary healthcare referrals.

In addition to home care, the Health Sector Transformation Program has achieved significant milestones in 2024, leveraging technology to enhance healthcare delivery. The Sehhaty platform facilitated more than 51 million virtual consultations, offering convenient access to medical advice. Meanwhile, the Wasfaty platform was used by over 14 million individuals, generating more than 40 million prescriptions.

Volunteerism in the healthcare sector has also grown substantially, with the number of health volunteers exceeding 632,000 since the launch of the health volunteering platform.

Through these efforts, the Ministry of Health continues to address community needs, promote efficient healthcare delivery, and prioritize patient-centered care. These advancements reflect the Kingdom’s commitment to transforming its healthcare sector and achieving the objectives of Vision 2030.

The Saudi Press Agency highlighted these developments on Wednesday, emphasizing the ongoing role of innovative technologies and comprehensive services in improving healthcare across the Kingdom.
